PM instructs the Ministry of Health to strengthen human resources

The Prime Minister of Cambodia, Dr. Hun Manet, instructed the Ministry of Health to focus on the most important priority: human resources and medicine, that is, to expand the quantity and strengthen the quality, as well as to consider the level of skills and methods to maintain human resources, while medical resources must consider the quality and use for the disease.


The recommendation of Dr. Hun Manet to the Ministry of Health was made during the presidency of the Plenary Meeting of the Council of Ministers at the Peace Palace on December 1, 2023.

According to a press release on the outcome of the Plenary Session of the Council of Ministers distributed after the meeting, “In the process of discussing and passing on the progress report on the preparation and implementation of key measures in the health sector, the premier recommended focusing on the most important priorities: human resources and medicine, in which human resources need to expand the quantity and strengthen the quality, as well as consider the level of skills and methods to maintain human resources, while medical resources need to think about the quality and use for the disease.

In this regard, the Prime Minister recommended the Ministry of Health study clearly the type of disease in the commune to allocate drugs to target.”

It should be noted that according to the above announcement, the Ministry of Health has set out eight key activities to continue the three key measures to achieve further new progress, including:

1) Continue to strengthen the mechanism for evaluating and improving the quality of health services at health centres and referral hospitals, level 1/2/3, using level 2 assessment equipment.

2) Expand services for high blood pressure and diabetes at health centres.

3) Strengthen the work of the health centre management committee and village health support group in the area of responsibility of each health centre.

4) Strengthen the capacity to provide emergency services and surgical services (surgery) at the referral hospital, 1/2/3 level.

5) Strengthen the referral system between health centres and referral hospitals.

6) Increase the technical and clinical capacity of the staff of health centres and referral hospitals at the 1/2/3 level.

7) To develop institutional capacity, and

8) to continue to strengthen the management of health services, both public and private, in accordance with the laws and regulations in force. Dap-news
